Hi everybody!

You must excuse me for the lack of a post; however, I am glad to inform posts will now be posted in a more consistent order, although they may be cut down to a bi-weekly schedule! Today, I’m very excited to tell you all about none other than Abigail Adams.

When we think about early women in history who challenged expectations, Abigail Adams often comes to mind. While she may be best known as the wife of President John Adams, she was far more than just a First Lady. Abigail used her quick wits to challenge stereotypes about women, especially in the world of finance and politics, at a time when women were expected to stay silent.

Head of the family

One of her most notable contributions was her role as one of the earliest examples of a woman actively participating in government investing. She carefully managed the Adams family finances and invested in government bonds during the Revolutionary War. At a time when many men doubted the ability of women to handle money, Abigail proved them wrong. Her decisions were not smart but also profitable, showing that women could think strategically about long-term financial security.

A leader

Along with investing, she also managed her family’s farm and business affairs during long periods when her husband was away. This gave her practical experience in making economic choices that affected workers, land, and income. Her leadership at home demonstrated that women were already acting as financial decision makers, even if society refused to grant them recognition. Nowadays, it’s insane to think about the lack of rights women held. Abigail saw ahead to what the future would be.

A fight for Women’s rights

Today, she is most well-known for being a prominent fighter for women’s rights, famously urging her husband to “remember the ladies” when shaping the new nation. While women were far from gaining equality in her time, her outspokenness planted an important seed that pushed against the stereotypes of women as passive and financially dependent. Her advocacy served as an early reminder that women deserve to be heard and included in conversations about laws, education, and property.

An Inspiration for all

Her life should act as an inspiration to us all. It exemplifies that the narrative of women being excluded from finance and politics has never been the full story. Abigail Adams stood as proof that women have always been capable of managing wealth and influencing the future, even if the world was not ready to acknowledge it yet. By embracing financial independence and demanding equality, she helped open the door for future generations of women to claim their rightful place in both finance and society.
